Winter Sparks

In the fall of 2025, AARP Vermont awarded Winter Placemaking Grants to eight organizations across the state to support creative, inclusive programming that fosters community connection and combats social isolation among older adults during the coldest months of the year. Middletown Springs Public Library was awarded $4,000 to launch “Winter Sparks,” a program offering workshops and events throughout the winter and early spring.

Winter/Spring 2025-2026 included these series and programs:
Mindfulness Practices & Real Happiness with Shirley Oskamp
Winter Chorus with Melissa Chesnut-Tangerman
Memoir Writing Workshop – How To, and Why Bother? with Herb Childress.
Ready Set Puzzle! Puzzle Challenge.
Mandala Stone Painting Workshop with Gabby Hayward
Community Art Days with Rosemary Moser
And more!

The library is very excited to been awarded this grant and has started to develop even more programming for older adults, as well as for the community at large in the hopes that we can offer this program in our new space in the Winter/Spring of 2026-2027.
